Alain J. Nahimana

Originally from Burundi, Alain Nahimana is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center. Previously, he served as the Coordinator for the Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition (MIRC).

Alain brings his experience in community organizing and coalition building to foster collaboration, build partnerships to advance the agenda for immigrant integration.


Damas Rugaba

Damas Rugaba is an immigrant from Rwanda and a Co-Founder of the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center. He is a lead consultant on operations with the IWC.

Celeste Carpenter

Celeste Carpenter came to the IWC as an AmeriCorps VISTA Member in 2018 and is currently the Development and Communications Associate. She was born and raised in Gorham, Maine, and recently graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a B.A. in International Studies.


Daniyah Kazadi

Daniyah Kazadi is a former refugee from Burundi residing in Portland, ME since August 2018. He speaks over 5 languages. After working for over 4 years as a language interpreter in several US States, he is now working as the iEnglish Project Program Associate at the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center.
