About Portland Yard Sale: “Portland Yard Sale is so much more than a yard sale. Portland Yard Sale is about hope. In a time of such deep division and unspeakable separation — of migrant children from their families at the southern border — how can we combat our feelings of helplessness and actually put our anger to good use?
We can do our part as a community, through the generosity and creative force of Maine makers and entrepreneurs, to generate hope — and help — for the detained children who so desperately need it. Every single dollar spent at Portland Yard Sale on September 15th will go to the RAICES Legal Representation, Education, and Advocacy (Leaf) Fund, which provides critically needed legal services to children who have been separated from their families at the border. RAICES is, quite simply, saving lives by helping people navigate a system that is working hard against them.
Children need love. Children need care and protection. Children need advocates. Come to Portland Yard Sale on September 15th, spend money on an amazing variety of Maine-made goods, and help us send some hope to these kids.”
